Sophie and Timley, the two main characters in my upcoming novel for kids, (Bon Voyage, Sophie Topfeather), run away from home and find themselves “up in a crow’s nest”–alone, scared, away from family and friends’ expectations, and on the adventure of a lifetime. In that isolated place, high above a vast ocean, they are no longer predator and prey, but two very different animals with more in common than they expected. They begin to listen to each other, learn from each other, and befriend each other. Most importantly, they help each other find Sky Painter–Creator, Guide, and Saving Friend.
It’s my hope and prayer that this blog will be a place where we can be “up in a crow’s nest” together, learning from each other and befriending each other, and helping each other to draw closer to God.
I write as a Christian, meaning that I believe that Jesus Christ was God here on earth, that he came to show us how to have a relationship with the one who made us in his image, who loves every one of us, and who died for my sins. I believe that he rose again from the dead on the third day, and that he is in heaven preparing a place for us. It’s all in the Bible. If you make a comment, I hope you write as whoever you are, too. We will have some things in common, and we have a lot to learn from each other, but I won’t pretend to be just like you, and I hope you won’t pretend to be just like me. Just like Sophie and Timley discover, it is only when we can appreciate the ways we are the same as well as acknowledge the ways we are different and respect those, that we will truly be free.
